Classes & Workshops

We firmly believe that there are no secrets in beekeeping and that the future lies in more people getting into the field. We enjoy sharing what we know and all of our trials, tribulations and successes along the way.

To that end, we’re in the process of a developing a series of workshops:

  • Introduction to Sustainable Beekeeping
    • You’ve heard a lot about the plight of  the honeybee and you want to help. You’ve decided that keeping your own hives might be something that you’d like to do, but you don’t know where to begin. This is a one-day introduction to keeping bees and doing it in a sustainable fashion.
    • We’ll take you through a typical first year in a new apiary beginning with equipment choice, where to put your hive(s), how to get and install your bees, and what you should expect to see at various points in the year.
    • It’s a day jam-packed with information, but delivered in a format that’s fun and easy to digest.
  • More Sustainable Beekeeping (Intermediate)
    • Have you taken one of our workshops already?
    • Are you already keeping bees in a sustainable fashion, but need some guidance?
    • Have you survived your first year and now you have more questions that you did before?
    • You’ve been keeping bees for years and you want to move to a more sustainable, chemical free methodology?
    • Are you interested a more indepth understanding about beekeeping than just hiving that new package of bees?
    • This is the day for you!
    • It’s a day jam-packed with information, but delivered in a format that’s fun and easy to digest.
    • We will delve deeper into such topics as:

      • swarms, splits and nucs
      • harvesting
      • dealing with cross combing and other annoyances
      • And a few more to be determined
    • And don’t forget there’s lunch provided!
