Honeybees & sawdust

How’s this for odd: I just had to quit building hive parts outside because the saw and sawdust were being aggressively “attacked” by several dozen flying bees.

I have NO idea why, and there doesn’t seem to be any consensus online, but they were flying into the piles of shavings, aggressively wrestling it or rolling around in it and then flying off again:

I don’t get it, but I was sure not expecting to have to dodge bees along with the whirling blades o’ death of the tablesaw. I decided to bail out when they started landing on my bare neck. Given how aggressive they seemed to be behaving with the shavings, I wasn’t all that keen on having them run down the back of my t-shirt. Again.  😆
